Position Description:


Under general supervision, responsible for business systems process analyses, needs assessments, planning, preliminary cost/benefit analyses, and successful implementation of new or enhanced systems in an effort to align information technology solutions with client and organizational initiatives.




·      Collects input from broad group of stakeholders on student data needs, working with building staff, instructional leaders, and data teams for ongoing development of data systems.

·      Partners with academic departments to align data practices and enhance coordination between district programs.

·      Collaborates with internal users to enhance and/or develop system solutions to organizational requirements; identifies creative and logical options to solve client needs/problems while addressing technical and organizational suitability.

·      Conducts preliminary investigation for all project requests. Reviews requirements, specifications, tests solutions, support and training plans to ensure they are in line with business objectives on projects.

·      Provides a single point of contact for customers/business units into IT and acts as a conduit.

·      Translates client requirements into a specified project brief; produces project feasibility reports.

·      Serves as project manager for IT projects. Tasks include project planning and coordination, communication to diverse internal and external audiences, and oversight of implementation to ensure completion in an effective manner within project deadlines.

·      Manages contractors who are required to provide project related deliverables.

·      Participates in Business Process Modeling sessions, acting as a documentarian, co-facilitator, facilitator, or subject matter expert in sketch sessions.

·      Ensures that budgets are adhered to and deadlines met.

·      Participates in Business Process Management group efforts to collect and analyze metrics and continually improve processes owned by the group.

·      Participates in root cause analysis in order to recommend product enhancements or other appropriate actions to improve productivity for both the business units and IT.

·      Consults with coworkers and other department staff requesting services to discuss preferences, methods of production, budgetary, scheduling, and production requirements.

·      Documents work completed and maintains records; notifies manager and other technicians of unusual problems or problem trends in order to facilitate continued improvement of client services.

·      Identifies technical problems which need to be addressed by improved policies and procedures.

·      Develops relationships with community stakeholders to build and maintain trust, transparency and cooperation.

·      Prepares a variety of technical, statistical and narrative reports, correspondence and other written materials.

·      Attends professional development opportunities as necessary to ensure skills and knowledge are current with industry practices.

·      Represents the IT Division in meetings with representatives of other District departments, vendors, and professional/public agencies.

·      Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information; performs related duties as required or assigned.



Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, or related field; AND four (4) years of professional systems support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. 


Knowledge of:

·         Project management and analytical techniques.

·         Principles and techniques of systems analysis and design.

·         IT governance and operations.

·         Principles and practices of project and contract management.

·         Principles, tools and techniques for IT project management.

·         Operational & technical characteristics of hardware, software applications and systems engineering.

·         Professional standards for business correspondence, writing, spelling and grammar.

·         Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.

·         Customer service standards and protocols.

·         Principles of record keeping, records retention, records management, and file maintenance.


Skill in:

·         Analysis of systems and user needs.

·         Responding to requests in an efficient, effective and friendly manner

·         Creation of proposals for information technology systems designs.

·         Explaining complex technical issues to non-technical customers in a user-friendly and informative manner.

·         Organizing work responsibilities, setting priorities, and adjusting frequently to changing priorities; meeting critical deadlines; completing job assignments without close supervision.

·         Definition and resolution of technical information systems issues.

·         Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.

·         Planning, prioritizing and completing assignments with minimum supervision.

·         Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those individuals contacted in the course of work.

·         Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

·         Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team/work unit goals, objectives and activities.



Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Mobility to drive a motor vehicle in order to attend meetings.  A job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage

SALARY:   MACA Tech Schedule C      $57,183 - $75,866
