Position Description:

SUMMARY
Under general supervision, provides professional level support for MPS in regard to development, implementation and maintenance applications and databases related to applications; installs, updates and maintains system components, database and infrastructure.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS --

 

        Designs and implement advanced web applications and database and manages their effective implementation using

         C#, Asp.net and SQL.

         Administers complex database systems to assure efficient and timely flow of information; programs and re-

         organizes database to enhance performance and assure maximum uptime.

         Create Tables, Queries, Stored Procedures, Functions and Triggers in SQL Server.

         Upgrade existing web applications in to latest version of .net using Visual Studio tool

         Manager existing web and database applications.

         Manages and maintains database; installs and configures hardware, software and upgrades; installs and tests s

         security patches; plans and implements backup and recovery procedures.

         Create various advanced reports using reporting services and integrate them with web applications.

         Create SSIS packages to export and import data using Visual Studio and Integration tools

         Build various interfaces for internal and external systems.

         Analyze existing queries and stored procedures and make them more efficient.

         Gather requirements from end users and create technical specifications based on that.

         Create Test Scripts to test web applications.

         Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on experience; performs work within scope of

          authority and training; coordinates work with other MPS Information Technology (IT) staff.

         Monitors database environment, access, security, and functionality; resolves traffic, security, and access issues; 

         assures the overall integrity, security and reliability of database systems.

         Evaluates and analyzes operating systems issues, and recommends and implements solutions; identifies system

         problems, and resolves problems within scope of authority.

         Provides technical oversight of a wide variety of server environments and operating systems.

         Develops technical report formats to analyze current and archived data.

         Develops and delivers technical training programs for MPS staff.

         Maintains and enforces all aspects of system security and confidentiality of records and information; monitors

         operations and identifies security issues and violations of MPS policies and guidelines.

         Documents work completed; maintains work log of service requests, equipment malfunctions, software errors and

         failures, equipment locations and technical configurations; identifies and reports trends and technical problems

         which need to be addressed by improved procedures and policies.

         Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff;

         acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment 

         Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.

         Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

         Has access to any and all documents contained on District servers and individual office personal computers. This

         includes highly confidential documents relating to individual employee private information, confidential

         departmental documents, including collective bargaining negotiations.  Maintains strict confidentiality of all

         document contents on any District server or personal computer.

         Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

         At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish

         requirements of the position

         Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff;

         acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Bachelor’s Degree in computer technology; AND four (4) years of application development and database management experience; demonstrated proficiency in  experience in C#, ASP.Net, SQL Server, SSIS and Reporting Services  OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

 

 
Knowledge of:

  • Administration and maintenance principles of multiple network operating domains, relational databases, and web and windows-based software applications.

  • Principles of design and integration of network operating systems, communications systems, relational databases, and other IT applications.

·         Evaluating vendor-supplied software products and making effective recommendations regarding product acquisition and installation

·         Assessing customer support needs, and implementing effective solutions.

·         Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.

·         Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:

·         MPS organization, operations, policies and procedures.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.  Microsoft (MCTS/MCITP/MCPD) and other professional IT certifications are desirable.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 

Work is performed in a computer laboratory and standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.  Requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires.

 

 

SALARY:   MACA Tech Schedule C      $57,183 - $75,866
