Under general supervision, conducts confidential investigations for violation of state and Federal anti-discrimination laws; conducts programs to integrate diversity and equity into MPS operations, and promotes District compliance with MPS policies, and state and Federal laws.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conducts programs for the Diversity Office, including awareness, accommodations, understanding and investigations; evaluates compliance with state and Federal anti-discrimination rules and regulations, and MPS policies and procedures.

• Conducts confidential investigations of discrimination and harassment incidents and complaints; conducts interviews, analyzes data, compares incident reports to legal standards and policies, and develops recommendations to address and resolve issues.

• Develops community partnerships to provide resources for school programs; coordinates community outreach events to promote programs and recruit volunteers.

• Responds to requests for reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA); qualifies individuals, orders assessments, coordinates accommodation procedures, and orders equipment and supplies.

• Conducts and facilitates training on diversity and EEO compliance topics.

• Promotes MPS supplier diversity program; coordinates meetings and searches for organizations with diverse suppliers.

• Performs various administrative functions for Diversity Office; provides information to MPS staff and assistance to the public within scope of authority and training.

• Represents the Diversity Office at community events as assigned.

• Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment

• Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.

• Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

• Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

• At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.



Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration or related field; AND two years legal research and investigation experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. Juris Doctor or Master’s Degree is preferred.

Knowledge of:

• Applicable state and Federal laws, statutes, rules, codes and regulations governing employment and human rights.

• Techniques for conducting effective investigations and confidential interviews.


Skill in:

• Conducting confidential investigations and interviews.

• State and Federal laws, statutes, rules, codes and regulations governing employment and human rights functions, including U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (C) rules, Americans with Disability Act (ADA), and Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA).

• Understanding and applying the principles, concepts, procedures, laws and rules governing the operations of a diversity program in public education.

• Communicating effectively with individuals and groups of diverse interest and racial and ethnic backgrounds

• Researching, collecting, analyzing, and preparing data and generating reports.

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, community leaders, government agency representatives, and the public.

• Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.

• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.



Knowledge of:

•MPS organization, operations, policies and procedures.



A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.



Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
